John says,

I always had a passing interest in Real Estate. Always tried to keep abreast of the local market conditions where I lived even though I wasn’t in the business.  When an opportunity arose, I thought I’d get into it:  As in  – getting a listing?! – Piece of cake!

Little did I realize that instead of just dealing with the financial savings, as well as the theoretical workload savings, of doing deals in my previous business life while working with number crunchers, Real Estate sales involved the emotions of people from all walks of life:  Regardless of whatever field they worked in, they were tied to their overwhelming desire of either buying or selling their homes whether those convictions were rational or not.

And it just so happened that one of my very first clients was the looniest of loony tunes.  I thought I might have been consigned to Hell when dealing with her.  She was looking to buy a house and I was evidently the one who drew the short straw to take her on a tour.

But unlike Sisyphus who had to continually roll the boulder up the hill, I only had to drive her around.  And she thought that it was my life’s calling to do only that.

So I made like it was a joke being played on me by a higher authority and started writing down the events of the day when out with clients.  Because if I didn’t look at the lighter side of things when dealing with her, I knew I’d eventually wind up feeling like I, too, would be rolling the boulder uphill forever.

And it turned out that my capture of these moments with clients was to be the beginning of an unforgettable experience in finding out what kind of strangely unique personalities people have.  What they say, what they do, how they deal with things.

I found out that sooner or later everyone shares their true nature – either purposely or by default — and ultimately I came across a multitude of them that exposed their true inner being.

Now when I think about all the different people I met doing Real Estate, and they ran the full gamut from regular, ordinary people to borderline insane, it always brings a smile to my face.

I hope it does yours, too.
